CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT WEBSITE:

For the past year, I have been providing Chesapeake College additional website content support as a freelancer to move, reorganize, and help migrate content from their current Drupal site to their newly styled and structured development WordPress site. We will be conducting previews and user testing to plan for iteration to ensure a great experience prior to launch!

48in48 Website build events

Website teams from around the world compete to build 48 websites in 48 hours, benefitting non-profits.

Heart and Soul of Atlanta – April 2024

They wanted their website to resonate with the multi-generational diverse community that they strive to serve. They offer real services for real people, and are seeking partners to improve lives and neighborhoods through education and opportunity. As the UX designer, I created their branding style guide, site maps, user flows, and mockups in Figma. I facilitated our team’s collaboration with clearly organized client content in Figjam.

LA Metro Churches – Oct 2023

Our team of 7 dropped to only 3 by kick-off night! I started as the content manager and improved an existing website’s sprawling information architecture into fewer, but more concise categories. I also streamlined the navigation bar and distinguished clear user flows with distinct calls to action. Then I took on the UX role and created a design system to define the client’s branding so we could delegate pages all get to work as a team.

I have taken several courses and bootcamps to improve my visual design, user experience, and user interaction skills. I explored a variety of product interfaces in a 90 day UI Challenge by Hype Academy.

LX and Instructional Design…

Professional Development – Chesapeake College

LMS Instructional Video

This video is based on some faculty training I presented. It shows faculty how to use two integrated apps in our course LMS to reduce file bloat, and then how to make their published files meet WCAG accessibility requirements. It was a mandatory in-person meeting on a Friday, so I used a story analogy to illustrate the task, and created the first steps in a micro-learning format to reduce friction and increase buy-in.

Women In Tech – Mentor-Protege´ Program 52

This is the orientation slide deck my co-liaison and I made as volunteer protege´ liaisons for the D.C. based non-profit, Women In Tech, which we then presented live on Zoom for the program kick-off during the virtual orientation. I incorporated visual design techniques to convey information about the program structure, with virtual training about how to use the software management platform, followed up with a reference document.

The Art of Film – Chesapeake College

The Art of Film is my favorite course to teach! Students learn about the 5 stages of film production and the numerous artists and technicians required to create, execute and distribute a cinematic experience to an audience. Self-directed final projects allowed learners to synthesize their knowledge while exploring real industry roles. Student evaluation comments include “an increased ability to analyze and appreciate movies” or “how to make my own.”

The Art of humanities – Chesapeake College

Learners gained a framework for the eras of traditional art, including visual art, theater, music, dance, and literature. They developed the background knowledge to help them recognize odes to former artists or famous works in popular culture and modern pieces. They incorporated their understanding into self-selected projects synthesized with their individual creative interests. Projects were shared and evaluated in a spirit of appreciation.

Practice and play for learning and growth…

Youth Winter Promo Video

The original Winter Retreat event organized by a large outside vendor was cancelled, but our dedicated adult team put together an amazing weekend for some truly fun and endearing students. I made this souvenir/promo video as a gift to all involved.

Youth Summer Promo Video

I just happened to be volunteering on the day of the summer kickoff and grabbed some shots with my iphone. I couldn’t get “Wipeout” by the Surfaris out of my head, so I made a video they can use as a promo.

Youth Fall Promo Video

So we didn’t really use turkeys to bowl with, and we ate lots of pizza instead of turkey. Some of us were great bowlers, and some of us bowled like turkeys. Needless to say, we all had a great time, despite the bowling shoes!

Volunteer Recruitment Video

This recruitment video helped us sign up more volunteers. I wanted to highlight the invigorating humor and joy in watching (playing) with these imaginative kids.

Kid Crafts Videos

Because we were not able to meet in person due to pandemic mandates, I made kid craft videos for my nursery kiddos and families and shared them via YouTube links and emails.

Kids Craft for Mobile

It was a Covid pandemic Mother’s Day, but this quick craft was to encourage dads to lead the kiddos in making a quick and fun Mother’s Day work of art to make moms feel appreciated and loved.
